What image should I upload to get the best favicon?

A square image with a simple, bold design works best, since favicons are displayed very small in browser tabs. Complex or detailed logos can become unrecognisable at 16×16 pixels.

Why do I need multiple favicon sizes instead of just one?

Different devices and browser features (tabs, bookmarks, home-screen icons on mobile) request different icon sizes, so providing several sizes ensures your icon looks sharp everywhere instead of being scaled awkwardly.

Where do I put the generated favicon files on my website?

Typically you upload the files to your site's root folder and reference them with <link> tags in your HTML <head>; exact steps can vary depending on your website platform.

Does the favicon generator work with PNG and JPG logos?

Yes, you can upload a PNG or JPG image and the tool will generate the standard favicon sizes from it; a PNG with a transparent background is usually the best starting point.
