How These Image Tools Work

Every tool in this category processes your image directly in your browser using client-side JavaScript — your photos are never uploaded to a server, never pass through us, and never leave your device at any point in the process. This matters both for privacy and for speed, since there's no upload/download round-trip involved.

The tools here fall into a few groups: format conversion (JPG to PNG, PNG to JPG, WebP conversion) changes how the image is encoded; size and quality tools (Image Compressor, Image Resizer, Image Quality Editor) change file size or dimensions while trading off visual detail; and utility tools (Image Cropper, Favicon Generator, Image to Base64, Image to PDF) reshape or repackage an image for a specific purpose.

Lossy vs Lossless — Why It Matters

JPG and WebP (in lossy mode) discard some visual detail permanently to shrink file size — this is fine for photos where a slight quality reduction isn't noticeable, but it's not reversible: converting a compressed JPG to PNG doesn't recover any lost detail, it just stores the current (already-reduced) quality losslessly from that point on. PNG is lossless and supports transparency, which is why logos and screenshots usually work better as PNG than JPG.

Choosing the Right Tool

If your goal is a smaller file size for uploading somewhere, start with the Image Compressor. If you need exact pixel dimensions (for a specific platform's requirements), use the Image Resizer. If your image has a transparent background that needs to stay transparent, avoid converting it to JPG — PNG or WebP will preserve that transparency correctly.
